Mechanical Engineering Intern
Norma
About the startup
🎯 We are revolutionizing Direct Air Capture (DAC) by developing a unique electrochemical process 10x more energy efficient than first generation and 3x better than the most ambitious second generation technologies. At scale, we estimate the cost to be well below $100/ton, unlocking the potential of DAC at scale, and paving the way towards Net-Zero emissions.
We are expanding rapidly, and it's an exciting time to join us! We've got a brilliant team, top-tier investors, and amazing collaborators on board. If you're passionate and eager to make a real impact, good news- we have a seat reserved for you. 😉
About The Role
We are looking for a mission-driven mechanical engineering intern. You will be directly contributing to the development of our next-generation hardware prototypes. You will play a key role in advancing our technology, working at the intersection of mechanical design, prototyping, and electrochemistry.
This is a hands-on role that spans from concept and CAD design to fabrication and testing in the lab and workshop. You’ll participate in rapid design–build–test cycles, helping refine components and assemblies to improve performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
The ideal candidate is curious, practical, and comfortable turning ideas into tangible systems. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, experimental environment, collaborating closely with engineers and scientists to bring early-stage climate hardware to life — and leave a visible mark on a breakthrough technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to maturing our hardware through iterative design, build, and test cycles with manufacturability in mind
- Support requirements definition and translate them into practical design solutions
- Develop and automate test setups, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems
- Perform hands-on testing of prototypes and real hardware to validate performance
- Work in an agile, fast-paced environment, solving problems iteratively with the team
Ideal Background(s)
Required:
- Strong problem-solving mindset, demonstrated through personal or academic projects
- Hands-on experience with fabrication, machining, or prototyping
- Fluent in English (and ideally french), with excellent communication & writing skills
Ideal:
- Experience with CAD and mechanical design principles (materials, sizing, tolerances)
- Familiarity with DAQ systems, sensors, actuators, and signal processing (hardware integration & measurement)
- Experience with LabVIEW (test automation & control)
- Experience with a scripting language such as MATLAB or Python (data analysis & automation)
- Familiarity with the climate deeptech sector is a huge plus!
What We Offer
We are an early-stage company building a world-class team, and a game-changing technology based on an ambitious vision, and we are 100% committed to it.
On top of the opportunity to make REAL impact in climate fight, we offer:
- Contract: Paid internship
- Period: 6 months
- Benefits: Coverage for transportation & Swile
- The unique opportunity to join the startup from its inception and play a critical role in its growth.
- A collaborative, dynamic, and stimulating work environment which promotes a rapid learning curve and personal development. We believe that innovation starts with people and that we are all responsible for shaping the future of the company
- Work ethic and intellectual honesty
