Basilisk Industries is building a high-power electron beam system for industrial rock cutting. We aim to transform the mining and drilling industries, driving down the cost of geothermal power and the critical minerals that the energy transition needs.  We are looking for a versatile mechanical engineer to work with our engineering and physics leads.

What you’ll do:

You’ll be tasked with designing both subsystem testbeds and large-scale equipment. Mechanical design to meet requirements for vacuum sealing, high voltage isolation, high temperature isolation (1,500 °C), and management of high power density heat loads will be required. You’ll also design some interesting fluid flows using CFD.  A lot of the work will involve hands-on prototyping – we will need you to work with suppliers and machine shops to have components made quickly and accurately and then assemble and test them in our lab.

We’re looking for:

  • A degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, with 5 years’ work experience

  • A blend of creativity, intuition, experience, and number crunching in heat transfer, fluid flows, and structures

  • Demonstrated practical knowledge of fabrication, assembly, tolerancing, and materials selection; We need designs that can be built, and that work reliably

  • Experience with simulation tools for fluid flow, heat transfer and structures

This is an early-stage role with real ownership. If taking your designs from concept to hardware, for an application with real world impact appeals to you, we’d like to talk.

Compensation: CAD $90,000-$120,000 depending on qualifications; comprehensive benefits; and equity in a company with significant upside. Based in Vancouver, BC: world class mountains and ocean at your doorstep.

This is an on-site position. Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
