About the company
Vema is a climate tech startup working on unlocking clean hydrogen supply to accelerate industrial decarbonisation and transition to clean fuels. We do this by generating hydrogen from chemically reactive geological formations and can generate thousands of years of clean and carbon-free hydrogen production to fuel the energy transition. This technology is called stimulated hydrogen or orange hydrogen.
In order to unlock this potential, we are working on testing in our dedicated laboratory different classes of catalysts to accelerate by several orders of magnitude the natural rates of reaction.
About the role
We are looking for a mission-driven, experienced and climate-aware material scientist/theoretical chemist to help us understand the fundamentals of hydrogen production at a molecular level, and interpret/analyze lab results on the tested catalysts. Results will allow for a better quantification of the catalytic effect enabling a more accurate and controlled design of the catalytic solutions.
This position will be part of Vema’s research team which includes several world-class researchers on the thermodynamics and geochemistry of stimulated hydrogen production.
The laboratory is situated in France, Orléans and we will expect you to relocate here.
Your responsibilities
- Model at a molecular level the redox reactions leading to hydrogen production in the different geological contexts of interest
- Analyze and interpret experimental data from catalysts testing in view of the model
- Run molecular dynamic simulations to better understand the catalytic effect of the tested compounds
- and generally support the R&D work of Vema
As an early hire in a fast-growing company, success means your role will evolve towards more responsibilities. You will play a key role in our overall technical developments, company success and overall climate impact.
Required background
- PhD in theoretical chemistry, material science or equivalent
- Experience in theoretical and numerical modeling of redox reactions
- Experience in molecular dynamics
- Hands on proven lab experience and autonomy
Nice to have:
- exposure to geochemical reactions
- French is not mandatory.
What we offer:
On top of the opportunity to make a difference within a climate startup, we offer:
- Full time CDI
- Competitive compensation and solid Stock Option package based on profile and experience
- Benefits
- Work ethics and integrity
And obviously, the unique opportunity to join the startup from its inception and play a critical role in its growth.
We believe that a diverse group of minds is key to solving the climate crisis and we strongly welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds.
We are committed to building a diverse, inclusive and mission-driven company. If you’re excited about Vema but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with what you read in this offer, we encourage you to apply anyways!
How to apply:
Send us an email to florian.osselin@vema.earth, with resume and cover letter. We will get back to you shortly after.
