We’re looking for a talented protein biochemist, biologist, or bioengineer who will work on developing and implementing techniques and protocols to produce novel proteins and to understand their role in cell-based biochemistry. You will be joining an early-stage startup with tremendous growth potential, offering opportunities for future advancement and the chance to help shape the work culture from day one
The ideal candidate is comfortable working on new problems in a shifting environment, able to self-direct, ask questions, and identify problems as they arise. Excellent attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to work as part of a growing team are a must. This position requires an employee who can spend most of their time in the lab; we support flexible schedules and hybrid work and always will.
Responsibilities:
- Help design, troubleshoot, and innovate production strategies for novel protein and cell-based technology
- Engineer yeast and bacterial production strains for heterologous expression and improved production of target proteins
- Design fusion proteins, truncations, or other strategies to help produce functional proteins
- Optimize isolation and purification processes for hard-to-express proteins
- Work alongside the team to design and build expertise on novel protein function assays
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph. D. in life sciences or a related field with 2-4 years of experience OR a Master’s degree with 4-6 years of experience
- Extremely comfortable working on new problems in a shifting environment
- Being able to self-direct, ask questions, and identify issues as they arise
- Excellent attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and ability to work with new technology
- This position requires an employee who can spend the majority of their time in the lab
- US resident or eligible to work in the US
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience producing proteins in cell-based or cell-free systems
- Experience handling or studying temperature-sensitive proteins
- Experience with cell-free peptide/protein production
- Experience designing plasmids or simple genetic circuits
- Experience working with Pichia pastoris or Basidiomycetous yeast, Pseudomonas syringae or Pseudomonas fluorescens bacteria
- Experience purifying or quantifying protein via Fast Protein Liquid Chromatography (FPLC)
- Willingness and ability to potentially lead a small team as the company grows
