About Marble

Marble is a climate tech venture studio. Our north star is to erase billions of tons from annual greenhouse gas emissions and create a thriving future.

We partner with scientists, engineers and operators to create new deep tech companies that solve hard climate problems — slash emissions, remove carbon from the atmosphere, and cool the planet — while reshaping multi-billion $ industries.

We're proud to be backed by leading climate investors across Europe and the US.

About The Role

We are hiring a Principal to play a leading role in supporting founders in their journey to commercialise high impact climate technologies.

You will work directly with Partners, senior team members, and brilliant founders on a mission to turn the tide on the climate crisis. You will have weekly interactions with some of the brightest individuals in the space — operators, investors, scientists, etc.

The role offers direct exposure to leadership functions such as strategy, investment decisions, people, investor relations, and the opportunity to broaden your climate tech expertise.

Location: Paris, France.

Language: English fluency required. French fluency strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

The Principal role involves end-to-end responsibility across the board:

  • Venture Creation. Acting as an Entrepreneur in Residence, you will support Marble founders and shape their future climate tech companies across market analysis, customer validation, TEA, unit economics, funding roadmap, co-founder pairing and team recruitment.
  • Portfolio Support. You will help maximise the success of Marble companies by supporting them on recruitment, industry connections, fundraising across equity and non-dilutive, contracts, term sheet negotiation, IP, company leadership, etc.
  • Marble Platform. You will play a key role in developing the Marble Platform to scale our support to founders, contributing to and creating content, curriculum and a resources library, as well as developing and structuring our industry and investor network.
  • Market Research. You will contribute to opportunity research and validation to prioritise where Marble should create new companies, with a focus on market analysis on several of our main sectors (energy, industry, agriculture, carbon removal)
  • Recruitment. As a senior member of the team, you will be play a significant part in sourcing and evaluating candidates for Founder in Residence and core team roles. You will also help Marble companies on their recruitment needs.

Beyond these core pillars, you will get involved in multiple supporting activities. For example, content creation (articles, decks, memos) for internal and external comms, legals, ecosystem relations, representing Marble at key events, as well as special projects, such as working with Partners on the future of Marble (e.g. our next investment vehicle).

You will have the opportunity to hire and manage junior colleagues.

The role involves occasional travel for events and meetings.

Requirements

The Principal role is ideal for a stellar operator with top climate tech exposure:

  • You have a technical or business degree in a discipline relevant to climate tech (ex: energy, industry, biotech, engineering, climate tech finance)
  • You at least 4 years of experience in the climate tech ecosystem as startup operator, investor or related, with an operator mindset. Additional exposure to product development, industrial scale-up, off-take agreements and FOAK financing is a plus.
  • You have a demonstrated interest (e.g. deep dives, industry analysis, market maps) in a broad range of climate technologies across multiples sectors, e.g. clean energy, industrial decarbonisation, carbon removal, critical minerals, agriculture, adaptation.

Your ability to learn on the job is more important than ticking every single box. However we would especially love to hear from you if this sounds like you:

  • You have experience in the commercialisation and scale-up of novel technologies, such as product development, customer validation, securing off-takes and commercial partnerships, fundraising, recruitment, TEA, market analysis, FOAK, etc.
  • You ideally have exposure supporting early-stage technical founders, either as a mentor, coach, investor, or in another capacity.
  • You have excellent venture taste in climate tech. You have a track record of sound judgment in evaluating tech, teams, roadmaps, markets, business plans, risks, etc.
  • You are an open and clear communicator. You can write crisp memos and deliver engaging presentations. You’re also great at giving and receiving feedback.
  • You have extraordinary talent sourcing skills. You know how to identify, approach, evaluate, and convince the top 0.1% people in a field to work with you.
  • You make things happen. You are outcome focused, action oriented, and comfortable with ambiguity. You have a track record of end to end project completion.
  • You excel at building and managing relationships, and you’ve already developed a solid network in climate tech that you’re excited to leverage.
  • You are a people person. You are approachable, collaborative and generous, with a high level of emotional intelligence. People feel energised around you.
  • You are a pragmatic optimist with a driving motivation to mitigate climate change.
