Closing the Battery Anode Minerals Gap

As the world advances toward an electrified future, the demand for batteries is increasing dramatically to meet the needs of electric vehicles and grid storage.

Graphite anodes represent a third of the mineral content in lithium-ion batteries, and their supply faces major bottlenecks. Over 70% of the world’s graphite supply is controlled by China today, and Graphite demand is expected to grow from 1M to 7M tons by 2030. Whether mined or synthetic, graphite production and processing are highly energy intensive and polluting.

Silicon and lithium based anode materials can mitigate some of these challenges while improving battery performance. However, cost, TRL and supply chain scale up are issues for top contenders in this space.

We are developing a novel process to meet the most urgent need of battery OEMs for high-performance anode materials. Our technology has key advantages over status quo graphite by maintaining domestic supply chains at competitive costs, while reducing carbon emissions

The Opportunity

We’re creating a new paradigm for next-generation anode materials: One that leverages widely available biomass, and transforms it into complex carbon structures needed in high-performance anode materials.

We’re building a revolutionary approach to supply silicon-coated carbon and graphite through a unique low-energy processing technology that we have developed and patented.

We have achieved compelling lab results, secured key partners (across feedstock, design, engineering), gathered a network of world-class technical advisors, and initiated strategic collaborations with US National Labs. Now all we need is… you!

We are looking for a CEO and Co-Founder. Your role will be broad, across product, sales, partnership development, operations, fundraising (venture capital and non-dilutive), team building, supplier management, industrial scale up, etc.

You will be in charge of driving strategic collaborations in the battery industry, fostering ties with cells manufacturers, OEM, raw material suppliers, and other parties.

You will join a stellar CTO and Co-Founder, with a PhD in material science, author of 2 patents and inventor of this new processing technology.

Skills & Profile

We are looking for an entrepreneurial individual with a passion for batteries, critical minerals and a driving motivation to mitigate climate change.

Must have: experience in some of the CEO type activities listed above, exposure in climate tech, good literacy in science and engineering

Example of relevant backgrounds:

  • Former startup founder / operator / VC - with a deep tech or hardware focus
  • OR Industry experience in the battery value chain - auto maker, battery manufacturer, active materials supplier, or related activity
  • OR Industry experience related to materials science

What We Offer

As CEO and Co-Founder, you will partner with a Marble Founder in Residence who has been developing this project and will be CTO in the new company. You will have the opportunity to meet her before making any big commitment of course!

We offer (among other things)

  • A €3,000 monthly allowance during your participation in the programme
  • A €250,000 pre-seed investment on startup creation if you’re successful. You and your team will own 80% of the company at pre-seed.

    • Mentorship and guidance at every step of the way
    • Hands on support across technology and market research, landing interviews with experts and customers, techno economics, roadmap and scale up strategy, IP strategy, team building, advisor sourcing, and more
    • Access to an unparalleled network across science, industry, talent, investors, mentors, climate tech founders, curated vendors and suppliers
    • Access to our research insights, knowledge base and resources
    • Weekly check-ins, work sessions in our Paris HQ (or remote) and continuous peer learning with other programme participants
  • Seed Fundraising support after the programme. Introductions to the best seed investors from our network and help with term sheet negotiation.
  • Founder Visa sponsorship if you wish to relocate to France. Remote participation is possible, preferably from Europe and with regular in-person meetings.
